- Negativity free? Sounds good… until you really have a problem.
Are we supposed to say it’s good when somebody dies?
Are we supposed to say thank you when somebody insults us?
How about when we read about a murder? Brutal beating? Children living on the streets? Racism? Sex trafficking? Hatred of any kind?
You can’t have good morals or high ethical standards and never think anything is bad.
I had a teacher in high school who once told us there is a difference between griping and complaining. Griping is pointless whining and grumbling. Complaining is done with the intention of finding a solution the problem.
Negativity without hope is pointless. It is this kind of negativity that we all can do without. It brings everybody down and steals our joy and our motivation.
Martin Luther King, Jr. had a big problem with the way his people were being treated. So he wrote a speech. In it he said, “I have a dream…” He then named several good things that he wanted, things that didn’t yet exist but that he hoped would become reality soon.
That’s what “negativity free” means. It doesn’t mean that we all go around labeling bad things as good. We don’t act indifferent to suffering and injustice. It means we do more than merely grumble, accuse, find fault, point fingers, and generally make the people around us feel sad and depressed. We don’t stay stuck in the past.
We have hope.
We have a dream.
We have a plan.
We look forward to a better future.
What do you have a dream about? What negative things in your life can you change? How can you plan for a better future?
